First of all, KDE doesn't have to be that flashy. You can just turn the effects off to make it just as simple as GNOME. Only better looking.

And konqueror isn't KDE's file manager anymore. It's dolphin. And dolphin has in my opinion a much better usability than nautilus and it's more powerful. And who says that its less stable than nautilus? Dolphin never crashed when I used it and I'm using it since the KDE3 days basically every day.

@rohith: You can easily change to the classic menu style. Just right click on the menu button.

That give good idea for about kde and gnome
KDE definitely look great but not so easy as gnome. kde start menu(or what should i call it main menu!) is eally waste of time especially in 4.3 or since from they changed its looks .. its really difficult to navigate between sub menus and all but realy good looking :) but on other hand gnome looks like old grand father of kde in looks(definitely) but its really simple and more usable(and ofcourse it have a genuine linux looks which i really like) its more stable and user friendly
I have switched many times to kde seeing its looks but within two days i have switched back to gnome cause looks doesnt attract you longer but surely usability doonments for linux like
Then for linux newbiess kde and gnome are not end in destop environment there atleast 10 desktop enviroment for linux like e17 fluxbox xface etc... do look at softpedia linx sections
