I have been searching for partition editors while my Windows Vista had only one partition. I needed atleast 4 partitions so i searched for partition editors. The first one that came to my mind was the Partition Magic. One of my friends told me that using Partition Magic for Windows Vista would be a bad idea .So i searched for something simple and free of cost. It was then I came across Gparted. Gparted is really a magnificent stuff that i never wanted to miss. It has a really cool interface with support for almost all types of filesystems. Gparted supports filesystems like NTFS,FAT32,EXT4,EXT3,HFS and the list goes on.Gparted for Windows and Linux is available for download. It is always a good idea to have a Gparted live CD . Download the .iso image burn the disk .Screenshots of the partitioning procedure are given below.
For making a partition in Gparted follow the steps.
1.Insert the Gparted CD and reboot your system ,after a few questions Gparted is ready to go.
2.Gparted will list your current filesystems and partitions.
3.Consider , I want to shrink /dev/hda1, so I mark it and click on Resize/Move.
4.Enter the desired size of the partition you need to create.
5.As you see, /dev/hda1 has been shrinked, and the new, free space is unallocated:
6.So you need to have a new filesystem , click new , enter size of the partition and select the filesystem , here let me choose NTFS and click add.
7.You have a new partition.
