Wikipedia describes sabayon linux as “Sabayon is an Italian dessert made with egg yolks, sugar, a sweet liquor (usually Marsala wine), and sometimes cream or whole eggs. It is a very light custard, which has been whipped to incorporate a large amount of air.”. Sabayon is based on Gentoo, and aimed at ordinary users. Shipped with a nice package manager called entropy it offers support for 64 bit and 32 bit architectures. Unlike Ubuntu, Sabayon by default, has vlc installed which enables the user to play all most all multimedia formats. Sabayon offers Kde and Gnome environment by default. A nice installer framework makes sabayon installation on harddisk a breeze. Try out Sabayon 5.3.

Why people may opt for Sabayon instead of Ubuntu ?

Offers much better appearance than Ubuntu.

Sabayon by default, has much higher support for multimedia and graphic drivers (Nvidia and Ati) than Ubuntu.

Sabayon’s package manager installs software from source, while Ubuntu, uses repositories of pre-compiled software.

Ubuntu on the other hand, is based on Debian and aptitude package manager. Much smaller in size than Sabayon, canonical even provides free shipping of Ubuntu cds. Ubuntu 10.04 comes with a better software finder, making program installation easier. Try out Ubuntu 10.04 (Lucid lynx).

What is new in Kubuntu 10.04 Alpha 3 Lucid Lynx

As the launch of Kubuntu is about to happen, lets have a look at what is more in Kubuntu Alpha 3 Lucid Lynx. Contrary to appearance, the system is not just a simple release of Ubuntu with KDE. Apart from things like screen loading and other obvious stuff, there is a lot of change in Kubuntu 10.04. One of the major change in this release is that it comes with KDE 4.4.0. Kubuntu Alpha comes with 2.6.32-14.20 kernel, X. Org 1.7.5, Amarok 2.3 beta1 and K3B 1.70. We feel that the Kubuntu team tries to distinguish itself from other KDE based operating systems , with more stuff from canonical . One interesting feature of Alpha version is the configuration modules touch pad , which enables the user to turnoff the touchpad, for example when editing or preparing text files.Firefox too is integrated with KDE ,which would be a cause for firefox freaks to switch to kde.

In Alpha3 version you can also enjoy the new packages as recorditnow 0.7, bangarang 1.0.1, fotowall 0.9 and later versions rekonq 0.3.90 etc . As for the part of conclusion Kubuntu 10.04 would be great for netbooks and notebooks too.

Image of Kubuntu 10.04 Alpha 3 Lucid Lynx can be downloaded from : http://cdimage.ubuntu.com/kubuntu/releases/lucid/alpha-3/

Most of the linux users use either KDE or Gnome desktop environments. Apart from those two, there are many desktop environments available for your linux. LXDE is a definitely one to mention here. The “Lightweight X11 Desktop Environment” claims to be an extremely fast-performing and energy-saving desktop environment. It comes with an eye candy interface , keyboard shortcuts support and additional features like tabbed file browsing. It curbs very little of your CPU and RAM.It can be very effective when your system resources are limited especially in case of cloud computing. It can be easily installed and configured in Ubuntu. If you are using Ubuntu 9.04 or above then you have LXDE repositories by default.

Installation

If you are using Ubuntu 9.04 or above then take the command line and type in

I know you need to shift to Linux from Windows as you can’t afford the side effects of windows. If you are having this feeling then this article is really for you. Like you i too, was a user of Windows and decided to shift to Linux when i was fed up with it. This was mainly because of the virus attacks and lack of stability of Windows . You know once i installed windows XP four times a day. One of my friends advised me to take a look at Linux . I have taken his advice , but soon came back to windows , when i found it was not right for me. But more and more nasty windows events took place and i made my mind to shift to Linux and the first Linux distribution in my life was Knoppix. Later i came to use Ubuntu and the journey in my Linux world continues.
Let me say, these days almost all programs which are for Windows are available for linux, atleast something like that do exist. Here are a list of few programs you should not miss when shifting to linux.
1. vlc player for linux , Mplayer also recommended.
2.Mozilla Firefox (available by default for most distributions).
3.OpenOffice
4.If you are an IRC freak then consider, Xchat
5.Interested in Virtualization , Virtual Box from Sun is a good option.
6.Amarok Music Player
7.For bittorrent clients consider Deluge , Azure, or Ktorrent .
8.K3B for cd burning.
9.GIMP image editor
10.Gwenview , default image viewer for KDE.
11.Text Editor Nano or Emacs or Vi(advanced).

Personally it is best to start with Ubuntu and if needed you can change to other advanced distros. Now Ubuntu 9.10 is available. If you are too skeptic about your Windows XP, then there is smooth shuffle program for linux which transforms your old XP to a virtual machine. Download any Linux distribution and feel the spirit of free software.

keywords windows becomes linux linux windows

Fedora 12 - overall performance of the system has increased.Fedora has introduced a third party product for Fedora called Easy Life which helps you to configure anything you need .

With the release of fedora 12 ,we decided to give it a try with a 64 bit live cd on a Toshiba machine. There is no good difference in appearance with the older editions of fedora ,just some changes in Nautilus icons. What to say, they offer a clear and clean appearance.

Firefox is preloaded with some addons like java and media works. But flash is not present. If needed you can install them.

The overall performance of the system has increased with the new launch. Moreover on the instant messaging companion Pidgin has been replaced with Empathy. The wireless device support is simply amazing and it detects all hardware easily.Bluetooth options have been increased and it even supports file sharing with via bluetooth.

Fedora has introduced a third party product for Fedora called Easy Life which helps you to configure anything you need .

It does the following:

Sets “sudo” command up for your regular user.

Configures RPMFusion repository for extra and non-free software for use.

Installs Flash Player plugin for .swf,.flv file formats.

Installs all kinds of multimedia Codecs for playing video and audio.

Installs additional fonts.

Installs Skype.

Integrates Sun Java with system-switch-java for easy use.

Installs Google applications like Picasa, Desktop etc.

And many others…

Fedora has done a great job considering security and performance in this release .As usual it is easy to use .
