Contacam: monitoring via webcam

Contacam is another program that we can use when placing security cameras in the house or office or nearby. The first feature that is obvious is that its interface and options are not too complicated, but are straightforward and understandable; the second is that it consumes few resources and the picture quality is quite good.

The program can monitor the area within range of the camera and start recording video automatically when motion is detected. The recordings can be saved as AVI or Flash and optionally stored on an FTP server or sent via e-mail. You can also choose to capture still images at regular intervals or create a timeline based on animated thumbnails that can be accessed remotely via browser, Internet.

Contacam can also do more than surveillance video because it can be used as a DVR to record 24 hours or record based on a specific schedule. And already put into the configuration of the program, you can designate areas where detection start recording, you can take snapshots, change the values of the video or motion detection area, plus we have the possibility of issuing streaming video and audio recording.

This program supports multiple webcams and IP cameras and can record video of all of them of a simultaneous way. It is free and oddly works on all types of computers, including those that only have the antediluvian Windows 98; if it is not one of the best in this section of the surveillance cameras, it is very close from it.
