Scribus, the open source software for the creation of magazines, books and brochures have been updated to version 1.4.0 after four years of initial development. Scribus 1.4 has more than 2,000 changes within which you find many new features and solutions to various errors.
The most notable of this new version are improvements that benefit the handling of objects, including advanced options for text and typography, new possibilities for vector objects and better object handling.
Another aspect to take into account is that Scribus 1.4.0 adds support for the import of new formats such as those used by Adobe Illustrator (EPS and PDF-based), WMF and Macintosh PICT format. It also has improved support for Photoshop files and PSD generated, so they no longer suffer destructive effects and even be possible to work with lines and multiple layers.
It is said that the great change appears to version 1.5.x, but until that happens Scribus 1.4.0 can be downloaded for free and to be cross-platform can be downloaded for Windows, Mac (Intel only OS X 10.5 or higher) and Linux.
