An independent developer has worked to make available to the Open WebOS community, an alternative and unofficial OS WebOS that HP again discontinued last year.
Over a year ago that HP announced it would discontinue all products with WebOS, the multitasking operating system for embedded systems based on Linux, previously developed by Palm. WebOS was as one distro of Linux open source.
However, the good news is that the developer Chen Ping-Hsun has released a live version of WebOS, called Open WebOS, based on Ubuntu 12.04. The bad news is that it is still in beta and still too many errors.
The kernel drivers are not yet usable, and that does not provide access to native WebOS applications. Chen said that is still being developed and tested only in an environment of Virtual Box.
If you wish, you can download this version of unofficial WebOS disk image and try it, even though there is no guarantee that you can do much with it. Chen Ping-Hsun says that development will continue and that will add missing drivers or configuration features that does not have still this OS experimental.
